Say
“technology” and our immediate association may be with complex systems,
feats of engineering, and large scale constructions. We invite
discussion of seemingly simple innovations, ones not necessarily
derived from involved calculation or engineering – small devices,
inventions with unknown origin in the past, practices so thoroughly
incorporated into daily life that we don’t think of them as
“technology.” Let us consider the consequences, foreseen and
unforeseen, of simple changes.
We welcome individual
papers and session proposals addressing the conference theme from all
possible disciplinary angles, such as its representation in literature,
the visual arts, political essays, or scientific and philosophical
writings. In addition to papers, we will consider submissions for
poster or portfolio presentation and musical performance. In keeping
with our theme, we suggest that our participants consider making their
presentations in the simplest form possible – without reliance on
technological props. In addition to the conference theme, papers
on all other aspects of the interaction of technology, science, and the
humanities are welcome.
